Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. Psalms 119:105
Breaking Open the Word
All RCIA Inquirers--as those who are new to the RCIA are considered—attend 8:00 am Sunday Mass with the St. John LaLande community. Following the three readings from Sacred Scripture and Father's homily, Inquirers are sent from the general assembly to further reflect upon the word of God in Breaking Open the Word. Breaking Open the Word is an essential study of the day's Mass readings and Psalm.

You are sent to receive Christ through the Word. |
The Real Presence of the Lord is in the consecrated bread and wine, the assembly, the presider (celebrant), and in the Word proclaimed. As those sent to break open the Word have yet to share the Eucharist, they are instead fed with the Word as the bread is being broken for the assembly, for no one should go away hungry for God. Yes, they should continually hunger for God, but we must be fed to keep up the journey to God that is consummated at our earthly death, and in a way every time we come to the table, whether for Eucharust or Breaking Open the Word.
